Six-Step Client Project Experience

At Boston Automations, we guide you through every phase of your custom technology project with transparency, expertise, and a focus on your needs. Here’s what you can expect at each step-and exactly what we’ll need from you to keep your project moving smoothly.

01

Discovery & Onboarding

We begin with a collaborative consultation to understand your vision, preferences, and goals. Our team listens closely, demonstrates technology options, and develops a proposal tailored to your needs and budget. This phase lays the foundation for a seamless project.

What happens in this step:
  • We meet to discuss your ideas and requirements
  • We review your space and technology possibilities
  • We outline next steps and project scope

Design & Engineering

02

Our engineers transform your vision into a comprehensive technology plan. We create detailed schematics and room-by-room designs, coordinate with architects and builders, and finalize product selections. You’ll have the opportunity to review and approve all plans before we proceed.

What happens in this step:
  • We develop and present detailed system designs
  • We coordinate with your architect or builder
  • We finalize all technology and product selections

03

Pre-Wire / Rough-In

As your home is built or renovated, we install all necessary wiring and infrastructure behind the walls. This ensures your technology is future-ready and works flawlessly from day one. Our team aligns schedules with your builder and keeps documentation up to date.

What happens in this step:
  • We pull a low-voltage permit, and coordinate with on-site trades
  • We install structured wiring and finalize device locations, and take 360-degree photography after wiring
  • We update documentation as the build progresses

Trim

04

With drywall complete, we return to install visible technology components-such as in-ceiling speakers, keypads, and wall plates. We focus on precision, blending devices seamlessly into your home’s design. You’ll review and approve hardware and trim locations on site.

What happens in this step:
  • We install and commission trim devices, then call in final inspection
  • We review final products and locations with you
  • We update all system documentation

05

Finish

Your system comes to life as we install, program, and test all equipment. We conduct a thorough walkthrough, provide training, and ensure you’re comfortable with your new technology. At this stage, your warranty period begins, and we address any final tweaks or adjustments.

What happens in this step:
  • We install and calibrate your technology
  • We provide hands-on training and system documentation
  • We complete quality control and system testing

Ongoing Concierge Service & Support

06

Our relationship continues after installation. We provide easy-to-follow documentation, proactive maintenance, and responsive support to keep your system running smoothly. Whether you have a question or want to plan future upgrades, we’re always here for you.

What happens in this step:
  • We deliver your documentation package
  • We offer service and maintenance plans
  • We remain available for add-ons, updates, or warranty calls

01

Discovery & Onboarding

We begin with a collaborative meeting between your team, Boston Automations, and the homeowner (if applicable) to align on the project’s scope, design intent, and schedule. Early coordination eliminates surprises and allows us to build a tight scope that integrates cleanly into your process.

What happens in this step:
  • We review architectural plans and discuss the scope of low-voltage systems
  • We identify key integration points with other trades (electrical, HVAC, lighting, etc.)
  • We outline deliverables, lead times, and communication protocols

Design & Engineering

02

Our engineering team produces detailed system documentation including floor plans, and wiring schematics. These plans are reviewed with your team and coordinated with architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings to avoid scope overlaps and field confusion.

What happens in this step:
  • We generate engineered drawings and device schedules
  • We coordinate with you and your subs (especially electrical and HVAC)
  • We finalize technology selections and budge

03

Pre-Wire / Rough-In

This is the critical infrastructure phase. We run all structured wiring for AV, networking, security, access control, and lighting systems—timed precisely with other rough-in activities to minimize conflict. We’ll be on site coordinating closely with your field teams.

What happens in this step:
  • We pull a low-voltage permit, then pull all low-voltage cabling and mark device locations
  • We interface with other trades on-site to avoid conflicts
  • We update drawings as field conditions evolve

Trim

04

After drywall is complete, we return to install the visible components: keypads, lighting, speaker grilles, wall plates, shades, cameras, and network devices. We double-check placement and alignment with cabinetry, tile, and millwork, working around your finishing schedule.

What happens in this step:
  • We install and test field hardware: lighting, shades, touchscreens, speakers, etc.
  • We update system documentation with serial numbers and install notes
  • We verify locations with the builder/homeowner on-site, and call in final inspection

05

Finish

With all hardware in place, we program, test, and commission the full system. We walk the space with your team and the homeowner to review functionality, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure the technology performs as expected before handoff.

What happens in this step:
  • We program lighting, shading, control systems, test each device, and calibrate A/V
  • We complete a walkthrough with the builder, trades, and client
  • We fine-tune system performance and document final settings, and train the homwowners

Ongoing Concierge Service & Support
