Boston Automations designs and installs smart home systems, home theaters, Wi-Fi and lighting control in Needham, MA. Needham is about 15 minutes from our office in Norwood, and it's where we built The Staycation Estate, which won Gold and Bronze in CE Pro's 2026 Home of the Year Awards.
The Staycation Estate is a 1917 poured-concrete house in Needham. The original wiring ran through channels cut by hand into the brick, and nothing could be torn out, so every cable and speaker had to find its way through the house as it stood.
We built it in two phases. The first brought in a Wi-Fi 7 network with outdoor coverage, cameras, Lutron lighting, five rooms for watching TV and music, and landscape audio around the pool. The second added a private cinema on the third floor with a direct-view LED screen about 130 inches across, Lutron HomeWorks lighting, motorized shades and drapery, and Control4 to run it all.

Needham has a lot of new construction, often a larger house built where an older one stood, along with colonials and capes that get renovated and expanded. Both are good times to plan technology, because the walls are open and the wiring can go exactly where it's needed.
In a house that isn't being opened up, we use wireless lighting control, battery-powered shades and careful cable paths through the basement and attic, so the upgrade doesn't turn into a renovation.

Before the framing is done, if you can. Running wiring for speakers, TVs, shades, cameras and Wi-Fi before the walls close costs less and gives you more choices. We work with your builder on the schedule.
In most cases, yes. Wireless Lutron dimmers, battery-powered shades and cable runs through the basement and attic let us add a lot without a renovation.
