Aquidneck Island smart homes
Boston Automations designs and installs smart home systems in Portsmouth, RI: lighting control, motorized shades, landscape lighting, music inside and out, Wi-Fi and cameras, all run from one app. Many Portsmouth homes face the water, and that shapes the choices we make.

The living room at our Little Compton project, down the Sakonnet River from Portsmouth
Portsmouth sits at the north end of Aquidneck Island, with Narragansett Bay on one side and the Sakonnet River on the other. Many homes here have big windows facing the water, decks and lawns that run down to the shore, and a dock or a boathouse.
That means more glare, more salt air and more of the property outdoors than a house in town. We plan for all three from the first visit.
These are the systems waterfront homes here usually need.
Landscape lighting for the drive, the paths and the water side of the house, so it looks good from the dock and you can see who's coming up the walk.
Motorized shades grouped by side of the house, so the bay side closes against afternoon glare while the rest of the house keeps its view.
Music on the deck and the lawn from marine-rated outdoor speakers, with the amplifiers indoors and away from the salt air.
Wi-Fi that reaches the water, including outdoor access points for the patio, the pool and the boathouse.
Cameras and lighting control you can run from your phone when the house is empty for the season.
Salt air is hard on anything outdoors. We use fixtures and speakers made for coastal use, keep transformers and amplifiers inside where we can, and seal the connections that have to live outside.
Inside, the equipment rack gets battery backup and surge protection, because storms on the island do knock out power. When the power comes back, the system comes back with it.
At a waterfront home in Portsmouth built in 2020, we designed and installed the landscape lighting, with low-voltage bollards along the paths and lighting that shows off the house at night and makes the property safer.
Our Little Compton project covers a main house, a guest house, the basement and the outdoor spaces, with Lutron lighting and shades, Sonance invisible speakers and Control4 running it all.
Across the bay, our oceanfront home in Narragansett won a CE Pro Home of the Year Award, the 2024 Lutron Excellence Award and the 2024 Sonance Project of the Year.
We work in Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport, across the bridge in Jamestown, and over the Sakonnet in Tiverton and Little Compton. Our office is at 83 Morse St in Norwood, about an hour from Portsmouth.

We start with a visit to walk the house and the property and hear how you live in it. Then we send a design with the equipment, where everything goes, and the price.
For new construction or a renovation, we run the wiring before the walls close. After the install we show you how everything works, and our service plans cover support after that.
Yes. We design and install smart home systems, lighting, shades, audio and Wi-Fi in Portsmouth and across Aquidneck Island, and we've finished projects in Portsmouth, Middletown and Little Compton. Our office in Norwood is about an hour away.
Low-voltage fixtures made for coastal use, with sealed connections, hold up best in salt air, and the transformers belong somewhere dry and easy to reach. We plan the fixtures, the wiring runs and the timer or lighting control together so the system lasts.
Yes. From your phone you can check the cameras, change the heat and run the lights on a schedule so the house looks lived in. We set it up so the whole house runs from one app.
Yes. We work with Savant, Control4, Crestron and Lutron. On the first visit we look at what you have and tell you whether it makes sense to keep it, add to it or replace it.
Yes. On our oceanfront project in Narragansett we worked alongside the builder, the architect, the interior designer and the lighting designer from early design to the finished house. We like to join a project before the walls close.
