Case study · Portsmouth, RI
A waterfront home in Portsmouth, built in 2020, had a beautiful yard that disappeared at sunset. We designed and installed more than 200 landscape lights so the family could use and enjoy it after dark.

The home and the goal
The house sits on the water with a long drive, stone walls, gardens and a path down to the shore. The owners wanted to see all of it at night, feel safe walking to the water and coming home late, and avoid the glare that spoils the view from inside.
The hard part
Salt air is hard on outdoor fixtures, and a big site means long wire runs. We drew a lighting plan fixture by fixture, chose WAC Lighting low-voltage LED fixtures rated for the coast, and sized the transformers and wire so the lights at the far end of each run are as bright as the ones near the house. Bollards light the drive and paths. Uplights pick out trees and the stone walls. Softer lights wash the face of the house.
The result
More than 200 fixtures now come on at sunset and go off late at night on their own. The family walks to the shore without a flashlight, the house looks as good at night as it does by day, and the lit yard keeps the property secure without floodlights.

It depends on the size of the site and what you want to see. This property needed more than 200, but many homes start with 30 to 60 and add more later.
They do when they are built for it. We use fixtures and connections rated for coastal use and check them on service visits.
We work across Rhode Island and coastal Massachusetts, and in coastal Maine by request. Tell us about the house and we'll set up a walkthrough.
