Newport County networks
Boston Automations designs and installs home Wi-Fi and networks in Newport, RI and across Newport County. We plan coverage room by room and out to the water, so streaming, video calls, cameras and the smart home all work in every part of the house and the property.
A lot of Newport houses were built long before Wi-Fi, from Gilded Age mansions on Bellevue Avenue to colonial houses in the Point. Stone, brick, plaster on lath and thick interior walls stop a wireless signal fast, and later additions put rooms far from wherever the internet comes in.
Waterfront properties add the outdoors. People want a signal on the porch, by the pool, on the dock and in the boathouse or guest cottage. One router in a closet can't cover that, and adding store-bought extenders usually makes it slower.
Every network we install starts with the same pieces.
Wired access points in the ceilings of the rooms you use most, connected by cable back to one rack instead of hopping wirelessly from one to the next.
Outdoor access points made for the weather, placed to cover the patio, the pool, the lawn and the dock.
A rack with a firewall, network switches and battery backup, so a power blip doesn't take the house offline.
Separate networks for your family, your guests and the smart home equipment, so a guest's phone never sees your cameras.
A map before and after of the signal in each room, so you can see the coverage instead of taking our word for it.
In a historic house we look for the paths that do the least harm: closets, attics, basements and the chases the original builders left. Where cable can't go, we use wireless links between buildings or flush, paintable access points that blend into the ceiling.
In a renovation or new construction, we run the cable before the walls close. It's the cheapest moment to do it and the network will be better for it.
Many Newport County homes sit empty for part of the year. A network you can rely on is what lets you check the cameras, change the heat and see that the lights came on at dusk from wherever you are.
We can also add a backup internet connection, so the house stays reachable if the main service drops. On a large project in Needham we added satellite internet as that backup.
Our oceanfront home in Narragansett runs on enterprise-grade Wi-Fi that covers the house and the covered patio facing the ocean, with the cameras on the same network.
At The Staycation Estate in Needham, a 1917 poured-concrete house, we installed a Wi-Fi 7 network with seven outdoor access points. The project won Gold in CE Pro's 2026 Home of the Year Awards.
On Aquidneck Island, see our work in Portsmouth, where most homes need coverage out to the water.
Our office is at 83 Morse St in Norwood, a little over an hour from Newport. On the island we install networks in Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth, and we also work in Jamestown, Tiverton and Little Compton.
For the rest of what we do on the island, see home automation in Newport County.
Yes. We design and install whole-home Wi-Fi and networks in Newport and across Newport County, including outdoor coverage for porches, pools, docks and guest houses.
A mesh system can help in a small house, but each unit relays the signal wirelessly and loses speed with every hop. In a large or older house, access points wired back to one rack give faster, steadier coverage, and we can see and fix problems remotely.
Usually we can get most of the way there through attics, basements, closets and existing chases. Where we can't, we use wireless links or small paintable access points, and we'll tell you before we start which rooms need which approach.
The network rack gets battery backup, so short outages don't take it down. For longer outages the house needs a generator, and we plan the rack so it comes back on its own when power returns.
In most cases, yes. On the first visit we look at what you have and tell you whether it makes sense to keep it, add to it or replace it.
Call or text (781) 333-8003 or send us a note, and we'll set up a visit to the house.
