A collaboration built around the lighting design

We are honored to be recognized with the 2024 Lutron Excellence Award and to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This achievement reflects our team's hard work, dedication, and passion for excellence in every project we undertake. We are proud to continue raising the bar in innovation and service.

Boston Automations was the technology designer for this 14,500 square foot oceanfront home in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Our role covered technology integration across every trade: design and installation of all audio and video, home control and networking, and a Lutron system built into the architecture and the interior design. The project was two to three times larger than any we had taken on before.

The homeowners, originally from California, wanted a legacy property in Rhode Island where they could raise their children and enjoy New England living. The house had to reflect the family's history and its future, carrying elements of their previous homes while introducing new technology.

We coordinated with each trade through regular team meetings and detailed planning sessions, aligning a Lutron HomeWorks QSX system with the lighting fixtures, the interiors and the architectural plans. Fixtures from 12 different manufacturers were coordinated with Evelyn Audet Lighting Design, whose plans and specifications gave us the load and driver details for the dimming modules.

More than 100 Palladiom keypads and shades were specified, with keypad engravings and scenes such as Good Morning, Good Night, Vacation and Entertain matched to the family's routines. Several of the trades had limited experience with this level of technology, so we took the time to demonstrate what the Lutron products could do. The project has led to ongoing partnerships with the same team.
